Ciao,
ho appena installato Ubuntu 14.04 su un vecchio portatile HP NX 7300. Per configura la wireless (che non funziona al momento), ho letto su vari forum un procedimento. Parte con il fare un update: ma qua già il processo fallisce. Quando faccio sudo apt-get update ho il seguente output:

Premetto che ho il collegamento a internet funzionante via cavo attraverso un modem router Aethra starbridge EU (indirizzo 10.0.0.2).

Cosa devo fare per sistemare le cose?

Riesci a navigare in internet con Ubuntu? Mi viene il dubbio che tu sia bloccato da qualche server proxy.

E come faccio a verificarlo? Io non ho nessun proxy impostato. Che sia qualche impostazione del modem router?

Apri Software e aggiornamenti → Software per Ubuntu → Scaricare da e seleziona Server principale o Server in Italia.

Quindi riprova con:

sudo apt-get update

Potrebbe essere una stupidata quella che sto per dire, ma cercando su internet le informazioni riguardo alla riga:

Impossibile connettersi a 10.0.0.2:8080:

i risultati sono unicamente pagine a dominio .ru (Russia) :/

Oppure stai usando qualche particolare DNS? Potresti aver impostato un server DNS nel router.
O sei forse dietro una rete aziendale?

Il server l'ho già cambiato più volte... ma nessun risultato. E' la mia rete di casa. Ho povato anche a settare qualche DNS nel router, ma nulla! Con o senza non c'è differenza.

Spero di essere riuscito a spiegare il problema. Ho installato ubuntu e durante l'installazione non è riuscito neppure a scaricare il pacchetto delle lingue: ho scelto i menu in italiano e li ho ancora in inglese. Non fa aggiornamenti e non scarica applicazioni. Ma in internet vado correttamente. Non ho proxy settati. Boh. Devo provare un altra distribuzione per vedere se i problemi si ripresentano comunque?

Puoi fare una prova da Live (selezioni "Prova" una volta avviato il DVD o la USB di installazione) senza installare nulla, e vedere se il comando:

sudo apt-get update

ti dà lo stesso errore.

Penso comunque che il problema sia della tua rete e che un server proxy non ti permetta di fare ricerche tramite apt, quindi:

  • o sei dietro una rete aziendale (ma non penso sia il tuo caso);
  • o stai utilizzando una connessione non "standard" (ad esempio con indirizzo ip predefinito).
    Oppure qualche impostazione nel router ti blocca la connessione. Non penso sia un problema di Ubuntu.

non sono dietro una rete aziendale, è una rete casalinga normale e sono connesso al modem router adsl direttamente (normalmente ho uno switch wireless dopo il router, ma, quando ho visto che avevo dei problemi, l'ho tolto per verificare che non fosse lui la causa) Se è utile posso postare il risultato di ifconfig o route...

Per verificare che la connessione funzioni correttamente, basta che apri un terminale e scrivi

ping www.google.it

(Da tastiera Ctrl+c per terminare il comando) Se vedi che non riceve nessun pacchetto vuol dire che la rete non funziona.

Comunque prova ad aprire "Ubuntu Software Center", poi nella barra "in alto" clicca su Modifica/Sorgenti software.

Arrivato a questo punto (alla voce "Scaricare da") prova a cambiare da "Server in Italia" a "Server principale"... E prova a riscrivere il comando apt-get update.

La connessione funziona. Mi collego a internet normalmente e posso pingare tutti i siti. Come ho scritto sopra ho già provato più volte a cambiare il server da cui scaricare (main server, server italia, svizzera...) ma non è cambiato nulla.
